That is why so many innocent people keep getting killed. That is what this story is about.

The next time someone says "it’s just metadata," remember this story. Innocent people die because of NSA’s use of metadata: the story cites 14 women and 21 children killed in just one operation.

I would say that the breakdown, analysis, and conclusions being discussed around this story are nearly as important as the story itself.

The fact is, people need help connecting these dots before the “lightbulb moments” happen. They need to see that “just metadata” is being used to take innocent lives as equally and indiscriminately as those who may (or may not, we have little proof and there has been no trial) be guilty. And, it is not only non-Americans but also Americans who have been identified (but, once again, not tried or prosecuted) as enemy-combatants.

So then, why are they so busy collecting “just metadata” of every American here? What does that provide them? Well, here is evidence of one thing it provides them that they have proven to use elsewhere and consider very effective — they can kill you without trial or hard evidence simply based on having the wrong “just metadata”.
